Gestalt

Gestalt is German, and could be translated as shape, form, likeness, or figure

Dictionary.com describes it as- a configuration, pattern, or organized field having specific properties that cannot be derived from the summation of its component parts; a unified whole.

I'm not a 100% sure of what that means but...

I think it has something to do with patterns and shapes and how your brain psychologicaly interprets that pattern... The pattern could be two different things depending on how you look at it.

I wish I understood.

Gestalt conceptually just means that a whole is greater than the mere sum of its parts. That's because the whole also takes into account the relationships between the individual parts to form a whole.

A woman doesn't have amazing hooters just because she has two beautiful breasts. They should also be fairly symmetrical. If one is way bigger than the other, it's not so great, even if the smaller one and bigger one are both beautiful when you don't consider the other.

A cloud is just a collection of water particles, but that doesn't tell you how neat and fluffy and interesting they can be.

BTW: agree totally about art and bullshit.
