I'm not a big fan of value charts. I've done at least a hundred billion of them. I did enjoy though making the other value chart thing because I really like the randomness. I agree with the fact that composition makes something really boring and annoying, when you have to do it a hundred million times, a lot more interesting.

Description: This piece is centrally located on the page. It is composed of 21 triangle-like shapes of different values. There seems to be at least 5 different shades in this peice. The center is composed of negative space that in itself forms a wavy circlur design. The upper right side has a somewhat uniform pattern but the lower left side does not. The pattern breaks away here and the shading becomes different.

Interpretation: I think this piece has an interesting rhythm. If you follow your eye around the design, it seems like the pattern itself is unraveling. This gives the sense of movement in the design, but not all the shapes have the same speed. By making the shapes on the lower left side overlap each other, it has a more jittery, quick feel. Overall, a sense of balance is maintained by the two dark triangles that face away from eachother in the center.

Evaluation: I think this peice does a really nice job of utilizing negative space. It makes the subject matter easy to understand, because there is a strong focal point in the center that the eye naturally wants to look at. I also enjoy the way the pattern breaks down. It would have been easy to keep it consistent, but by changing the angles of the triangles it makes the peice much more interesting. It gives the sense that the whole peice is falling apart. The shading could have been kept consistent too, but it's much more intersting that it's not. The triangles in the left hand corner take on a completely different life than all the other triangles. Again, negative space is used nicely.

the first image is kind of plainly centered on the page. The spacing dosent seem to be considered. Most of the shading is fluid and consistant but in some areas could use refinment. The gradation scale is well done and goes through the shades in even and clean incriments.
